Sunny Florida - famous for Disney, water, dodgy drug dealers, water, 'gators, swamps (grassy water) and sand (as if we didn't get enough of it last year). Providing arguably some of the most varied and bowel loosening courses bar none. An early tour visit to Buena Ventura GC is advised to purchase a box of cross outs (for $15 you get a buggy and free round of golf thrown in as well) coz Bubba, you're gonna' need 'em.
If the local wildlife doesn't get you, the water will. It's like the Lake District on acid.
A few practice shots on the immaculately turfed range leads one unerringly to the mistaken belief that if the fairways are that wide, this golf thing should be a breeze. The 1st tee soon dispels that myth. Sure, there's plenty of space down the left but nobody mentioned the water down the right - which is exactly where you'll end up.
The 2nd has ..... no water. The architect was off that day and his assistant, a high handicapper, slipped this onto the drawing board. 3rd - water, front and right. 4th - water ... 5th - water ... and so it goes on. And as if this wasn't enough, one of our party managed to drive over a garden sprinkler head covering the occupants of the buggy with ... water.
Still, it does focus the mind on the task at hand and as the number of lost
balls hits double figures, one can at least enjoy the thought that the resident
alligators must have constant and chronic indigestion.
